Hospital gardens illuminate blue and pink for Baby Loss Awareness Week

A special remembrance ceremony has been recorded by staff at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust to commemorate Baby Loss Awareness Week.

The annual service is led by the Trust’s Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Manager, Martin Abrams, and aims to support bereaved families who have been affected by pregnancy, baby or child loss.

To commemorate lives lost and to raise awareness, the Trust has illuminated the baby remembrance garden at Ormskirk Hospital in the colours blue and pink, as well as the garden of reflection at Southport Hospital.

The gardens provide a safe and quiet space for bereaved families to spend time to remember and reflect, and patients and visitors affected by loss are encouraged to use the gardens or the on-site prayer rooms, where they can say a prayer in memory of their loved one.

For the special ceremony, Reverend Abrams was joined by members of staff from the Trust and CRADLE, a national pregnancy loss charity, which began at Ormskirk Hospital.

Martin Abrams said: “Any pregnancy and child loss is incredibly sad, and our Wave of Light service is one of our annual events that we hold to offer support to bereaved families.

“We hope for families affected by bereavement that this service brings comfort to those grieving the loss of their baby or child, and our thoughts and prayers go out to you all.”

The online Wave of Light ceremony can be watched here at 7pm on Saturday 15th October.
