Formerly Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust

Breathing difficulties (respiratory)

Our children’s respiratory service cares for children and young people affected by breathing difficulties such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and lung infections.

We carry out a range of tests and investigations to diagnose respiratory conditions. We work with our patients to manage acute and chronic conditions.

The cystic fibrosis clinics held in Ormskirk hospital offers a multidisciplinary clinic for children with cystic fibrosis and is part of the Alder Hey children’s hospital Cystic Fibrosis Network.

This arrangement allows specialist care including inpatient admission, home care and outpatient follow ups closer to home.

Asthma clinics are held weekly and provide specialist input from diagnosis to stabilisation of treatment.

As part of the Chronic Lung Disease service we provide a children’s home oxygen service and our specialist respiratory nurse supports families in the local community.

We offer a supportive friendly service for children, young people and their families within a dedicated children’s department.
