Blood collection (children)
Blood collection for children under 12
Please visit the main blood collection (phlebotomy) page for children aged 12 and over.
Where possible we endeavour to provide a blood collection service on the day of your clinic appointment for bloods requested by your consultant.
A play specialist attends during the Wednesday afternoon session to help support children who may find it difficult to have bloods taken.
Please ensure you bring along your request form as we are unable to obtain a blood without it.
Telephone between 12 and 1.30pm to arrange an appointment.
- Southport and Formby GP requested bloods
Only urgent blood tests can be supported by Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – to organise this GPs are advised to contact switchboard and ask to be connected to Tier 2 Paediatric team on 3722, who will be able to agree if the requested test is clinically urgent.
They will then advise when to attend at Ormskirk - this may be the same day or day after.
- Fasting bloods, Consultant and West Lancashire GP requested bloods
Appointment only: Monday, Tuesday and Friday 08.10 to 08.40.
Wednesday 1.30pm-4pm.
Call 01695 656317 to arrange booking (between the hours of 12.00-13.15).
Appointments are facilitated at the Children’s Outpatients Department at Ormskirk District General Hospital. Please ask your doctor to prescribe the numbing cream for your child if required. Give your child lots to drink prior to the appointment and remember to bring the lab form as the blood test cannot be done without this.
