About the service
A phlebotomist collects blood from patients who require diagnostic tests on their blood. This requires a skilled procedure to take blood from a vein in the patients arm by using a fine needle and special collection tubes.
The service is for clients aged 12 years and above. Please visit the Children’s section for information on blood collection for the under 12s.
- Southport and Formby District General Hospital
The phlebotomy clinic runs on Monday to Friday from the Outpatients department 9am to 4pm. On arrival, please take a ticket and wait to be seen
- Ormskirk District General Hospital
The phlebotomy clinic runs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from the Outpatients department 8.30am to 11.30am. You must come with a blood form from your GP. On arrival, please take a ticket and wait to be seen

The blood rooms in General Outpatients are open at the following times:
Ormskirk:
Monday to Friday from 08.30am to 11.30am (Closed Wednesday)
Southport:
Monday to Friday from 09.00am to 4.00pm
This is a drop-in service, no appointment required.
