The Coronation of King Charles III will bring back memories of when the then Prince of Wales opened the new Southport and Formby District Hospital in May 1989.
And one person with particularly fond memories of that day is Joyce Jordan, who works as a Quality Matron at the hospital.
Joyce was a 20-year-old third-year student nurse at the time of the opening and was asked on the day to meet the Prince as part of the celebrations and be by his side as he unveiled a plaque on May 3, 1989, to officially open the new facility.
It was a memorable day for the 54-year-old, who has worked at the hospital since the day it opened its doors.
She said: “I don’t remember that much about the day as it was all a bit of a whirl.
“I was only young and quite shy and only asked on the day if I would take part which came as a bit of a shock. I had no idea want to do or what the etiquette was so didn’t know if I needed to curtsy or anything like that.
“But I do remember there was a real buzz around the place. There was a really big crowd, and he was very charming.
“He made me feel at ease and seemed to really enjoy talking to the patients as he went around the wards which was nice.
“Looking back on it, it was an amazing experience and one that I do still tell my children about quite often.’’
When asked about the Coronation ceremony she said: “I will definitely be watching it with members of my family, and I am sure it will be a great day.’’
