This week sees the launch of our virtual Open Week, this year entirely on video, as a result of the ongoing Covid restrictions.
Trish Armstrong Child explains: “We were a disappointed to cancel our annual open day as it is a great opportunity for us to meet local people who use our services. We hope these specially-commissioned videos show that we’re open for business and working safely for patients, even in these challenging times.
“There should be something interesting for everyone, so we hope you catch as many of the videos as possible.”
Day One
We kick off with a video from our intensive care team. Led by clinical educator Mel Pinnington, the team runs through a proning procedure with a training mannequin. This is a procedure which the team uses to help patients who are struggling to breathe, such as those with Covid-19.
Day two
Therapists and nurses show how important laughter and memories can be, as part of patient rehabilitation. This was filmed on our orthopaedic rehabilitation ward at Ormskirk hospital.
Day three
Our therapist demonstrate the use of simulator kit to help develop more empathy with patients, especially older people.
Day Four
Muffin, a fully trained therapy dog, pays a visit to one of our rehabilitation wards. Muffin does a fantastic job of lifting everyone’s spirits – both patients and staff. Find out more about Pets as Therapy here.
Day five
We followed a patient, Mo, as she went through the experience of having hip replacement surgery at Ormskirk hospital in September of this year. Scenes from her surgery are included, so please be aware of this and do not watch if you are not comfortable seeing live surgery.
Day Six
We wrap the week up with the video of Andy the porter, explaining a little of what goes into his day at Ormskirk hospital.
