Southport nurse presented with a coveted award

A Southport nurse has been presented with a coveted award.

Hilary McLaren, an Admiral Nurse at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust supporting patients with dementia and delirium, received the Cavell Star award for her services to patients.

Cavell Star Awards are national awards given by the Cavell Nurses’ Trust to nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who shine bright and show exceptional care.

Hilary, who has been a nurse for 30 years, was presented with her award by Lynne Barnes, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Therapies, at the Trust.

Lynne said: “Hilary is the most amazing person and the difference her and her team have made has been amazing.

“She is a wonderful nurse who is dedicated to helping others and she fully deserves this award.’’

Hilary said: “I am so proud to get this award and it really is unexpected.

“I have been in this role for about three years and absolutely love it. I work with great people who make a real difference to the lives of their patients.’’

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who provide vital support for families affected by all forms of dementia – including Alzheimer’s disease.

They help people living with dementia stay independent for longer – and support the people caring for them so that they will have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days.
