£1m investment in nursing at Southport and Ormskirk hospitals

A substantial investment in nursing staff at Southport and Ormskirk hospitals means that more than 100 roles are now available for nurses and healthcare assistants.

As part of this recruitment drive, on Tuesday 30 July, the Trust is holding a nursing recruitment event between 5pm and 8pm. This will be at Southport hospital, in the Clinical Education Centre. On this occasion, roles are available for band five registered nurses and student nurses soon to qualify.  The Trust is especially keen to speak to those wanting to return to the organisation, looking for flexible work patterns and anyone keen for a rotational post.

There will be a separate event to recruit healthcare assistants in August.

Chief executive Silas Nicholls explains: “We are delighted to be in a position to invest an extra £1m on nursing staff during over the next 12 months. This additional funding comes as a result of delivering a challenging budget last year. Every pound we save through being more efficient is one pound back to spend on patient care.”

During the recruitment event, teams will be on hand to answer questions about different departments and what it is like to work at the Trust.  Advice will be available about career development and training.  NHS Professionals will also be on hand for anyone looking for temporary roles with the nursing bank.

Anyone interested can attend 5-8pm on a drop-in basis.  Or you can apply online beforehand and booked appointments will be confirmed.

Juliette Cosgrove, director of nursing, midwifery and therapies explains: “We find recruitment events this like make the job application process easier for busy nurses or students.  You can just pop along for an hour or so and potentially go home with a job offer.

“We are in a much stronger position now than in recent years, with increased investment in staffing, facilities and our buildings, which will help us to improve our service to match increasing demands.  We are keen to talk to nurses in the area about the opportunities ahead for our Trust and staff”.
