Our Services A - Z - Medical Day Unit
About the service
The Medical Day Unit (MDU) is temporarily situated at Ormskirk hospital.
The unit comprises two, 10-chair treatment suites and two individual treatment rooms, working alongside a four-room outpatient department.
We specialise in intravenous therapies with a specific focus on haematological conditions. We work primarily to conduct day case treatments and investigation, preventing inpatient admissions and administering chemotherapy for haematological malignancies, as well as cytotoxic treatments for the rheumatology and gastroenterology teams.
The Medical Day Unit team is joined by nurses from Clatterbridge Chemotherapy Centre on a Monday and Tuesday to deliver chemotherapy to patients with solid tumour cancers, enabling them to have their treatment close to home.
- Getting to the Medical Day Unit
MDU can be reached from the main hospital corridor. However, patients may prefer to use the dedicated entrance. Facing the main hospital entrance, follow the road to your left around the hospital and past West Lancashire Urgent Care centre. The MDU entrance is on your right after a short walk.
