Equality Impact Assessment (EIA)

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is a tool that helps public bodies to make sure that their policies, and the ways they carry out their functions, do what they are intended to do for everybody.

Undertaking equality assessments is a statutory requirement and the Trust is required to consider any potential impact on those groups of people sharing the following “protected characteristics” i.e. age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; and sexual orientation.

The Equality Act 2010 requires public bodies to analyse the effect of their policies and practices and demonstrate how they further the equality aims. Equality analysis involves understanding the effect or potential effect of the Trust’s decisions on different protected groups. The Trust has developed Equality Analysis Guidelines and standardised templates to assist this process.

Copies of completed EIAs can be obtained by contacting the Governance team.
